C-Reactive Protein (CRP) Test
What is C-Reactive Protein (CRP) blood test?
A c-reactive protein (CRP) test is a simple blood test that is used to measure the level of c-reactive protein in your blood. The CRP protein is produced by the liver and a higher level of CRP indicates inflammation in your body when sent to the bloodstream. A CRP test is very helpful in diagnosing medical conditions that are responsible for inflammation including autoimmune diseases, injuries and infections. Additionally, some chronic disorders can also result in inflammation.
Furthermore, a hs-CRP test (high sensitivity CRP) is also used to detect the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases such as coronary artery disease.
Note: Service available only in Mumbai, India
What is the CRP Test done for?
Your medical health provider may ask for a CRP Test to check the inflammation in your body and its cause. However, several medical conditions can lead to inflammation and severe pain such as:
- A bacterial infection that may be life-threatening.
- A chronic inflammatory disease that includes rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.
- Osteomyelitis is an infection of the bone that causes redness over the affected area and results in inflammation.
- Fungal infection
- Inflammatory bowel disease also causes inflammation in the intestine and bleeding.
- Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID).
Therefore, a CRP Test is very crucial to determine any of these medical conditions that are causing inflammation, swelling or pain in the body.
